Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What’s the difference between Ariat “Shale” and “Flint” in FR jeans?

A: They’re two different denim washes. Shale is the darker wash, while Flint is typically slightly lighter. The main difference is the shade of the denim (lighting and production runs can affect how it looks in person).

Q: What’s the difference between Ariat M5 and M4 in FR jeans?

A: M5 is a slimmer fit through the seat and thigh with a straight leg, while M4 is a more relaxed fit (often paired with a boot cut). If you want a closer, more modern profile with less excess fabric, M5 is typically the better choice.

Q: Will the M5 straight leg opening fit over work boots?

A: Yes. The straight leg opening is designed to fit over many standard work boots. If you wear very bulky boots or prefer more stack over the boot, a boot cut model (like an M4 boot cut) is usually the easier fit.

Q: Does this jean meet CAT 2 / HRC 2 requirements?

A: This jean is listed with an ATPV rating of 20 cal/cm² and a HRC 2 / CAT 2 classification in the product specifications. Always follow your company’s safety program to confirm the correct protection level for your jobsite.

Q: Are the anchored belt loops durable enough for heavy tool belts?

A: Yes. This style features anchored belt loops designed to hold up better under the weight of heavier tool belts and equipment during regular work use.

Q: Do FR jeans shrink, and should I size differently?

A: Some shrinkage can happen over time depending on wash and dry heat. For best results, follow the care instructions and avoid high-heat drying to help maintain the fit and length.

    I like the fit:

Posted by Larry Burton on Oct 8th 2016

I like the fit of my new jeans better than any jeans I've worn. But I don't care for nor do I like the puckering at the pocket seams, or the zipper fold or the washed out look. Of course I'm 65 yrs old, and I would like the same fit without the new generational puckers and worn look. That's about all I care to say.

    Little expensive for the quality.

Posted by Amanda on Dec 28th 2015

I only buy this brand and style because in the world of FR clothing there is not much that fits my husband comfortably. They are expensive, any thing FR related is. But the quality does not hold up like I would expect for the price. Before the pants even start to look extremely worn seams will start to be stretched out( from climbing in and out of a truck a lot) and some bust. This has happens I would say one out of every four. If there was something else that fit my husband good I would buy, but so far this is all we been able to find.
